Japanese food is one of the most popular cuisines in the world. Japan's cuisine is very delicious and so highly praised by people around the world. Japanese cuisines has a large variety of dishes and regional specialities. If you are looking to expand your knowledge of Japanese food, here are some of the best Japanese Traditional dishes you must try.


1. Sushi
 寿司


Let's start with the food item that most comes first in our mind while talking about Japanese food. Sushi is without doubt one of the most famous food in Japan. Sushi is known all over the world and is unique in it's creation. Sushi is originated from the process of preserving fish in fermented rice. Now a days it is made with vinegar, rice and fresh fish. Sushi was one of the first Japanese food to be exported to US.

2. Tempura
   天ぷら

If you love eating fried foods, then you will enjoy eating Tempura. Tempura is a dish involving ingredients like seafood, meat, and vegetables covered in tempura batter and deep fried until they become crunchy and pale gold in color. The batter usually contain of egg and flour. Tempura can be eaten itself but generally dipped in a special sauce called tentsuyu, or it can be served on the top of rice bowl or noodles soups.
  
3. Sashimi
  刺身

Sashimi is a traditional Japanese food made of raw selfish cut into small pieces and served with soya sauce, Wasabi, ginger etc. Sashimi is possibly one of the most controversial dishes in all of Japan.  Sashimi is similar to sushi but without rice. Sashimi is typically eaten with soya sauce, wasabi, ginger  etc

4. Unagi
   鰻

'Unagi' is the Japanese word for eel that are found in fresh water. and unagi no kabayaki is popular unagi dish. In Japan it is consider as high class dinning. unagi no kabayaki is made by brushing prepared eel fillets with soya sauce based kabayaki sauce and grilling. It can eaten in various ways like cut up kabayaki on top of rice, it can be eaten with green onion or wasabi. Unagi is also loved as a health  food to prevent summer heat. It is also good for digestion.

5. Onigiri
    おにぎり

Onigiri is or rice ball are portions of rice with some filling in the center. It may look like a plane rice but they have a savory filling inside and wrapped with salty sheet of nori seaweed. Onigiri is also called omusubi, nirgirimeshi. onigiri are made mostly in triangular or cylindrical shape. They are made in bento lunches by families and often sold in convenience stores and super markets.onigiri can be found in various flavors.

6. Udon
うどん


Udon is a popular  types of Japanese noodles. Udon is a unique dish known for it's thick noodles, and is very popular and traditional Japanese dish. Udon is ver thick chewy and traditionally made from wheat flour and brine water. Udon noodles are boiled in hot water and enjoyed in seafood broth soup, or by pouring soup and toppings like tempura on top of it. Udon can savor udon hot or cold. 

7. Miso soup
みそ汁

Miso soup is another famous Japanese food, re owned for its great taste and health benefits. Miso soup Is made from a combination of miso paste and dashi broth.  Miso soup may seem deceptively simple, but it's an essential Japanese food that's served with any traditional meal.The complex savory flavors of the soup help to enhance the umami of the main dishes with which it is served. to give more flavors to misho soup many toppings are added ,like green onion, wakame , seaweed, tofu etc.

 8.Yakitori
 やきとり

Yakitori is a dish of bite-sized cuts os chicken grilled on skewer. With name literally meaning 'barbecued chicken' yakitori are seasoned with salt or brushed with a sauce, soya sauce sake alcohol and sugar etc. yakitori is often found on the menus of izakaya and casual resturants. It is good option for a nightout in Japan with friends. Also you can find it in stalls during Japanese festivals.

Soba (Buckwheat Noodles)
そば


Soba is another types of noodle dish made from buckwheat flour. It has been eaten in Japan for centuries. Soba has a long thin shape and firm texture and is very healthy. It is eaten dipped in cold soup or by pouring hot soup over it. It's broth is made from kombu or dried bonito broth. soba can be enjoyed hot and cold.
